NEW, JUST FOUND OUT: Jo-Jo is having a blog 2 year anniversary contest with awesome prizes. Head on over. It runs through Nov. 19, 2010.
Last but not least and out of order as far as dates go. If you take a peak, I am about to make my edits goal for the week. I have 12 chapters to go in my search for ‘ly’ and ‘ing’ words. Once complete and off to my editor it will be time to add two or three paragraphs to my first chapter. The goal is to introduce a character that my heroine can interact with to give the reader a better sense of who she is. This character will live briefly in chapter one. So, why not run a contest?
If you would like me to use your name, or a name you invent, add it to the comments section here. (I will not use your name just because you left a comment, you must say you want me to use it.) Both first and last name please. Leave me your email. Follow my blog. On Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, I will put all the names in a hat and draw one. On Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, I will announce the winner and send the winner an email. The name selected will be the characters name in chapter one. It can be either sex. Any nationality but not silly. This character is a musician and a college student.
I will mention you in the credits section of my book and when ‘The Treasures of Carmelidrium,’ is published on kindle in December 2010, I will give you a voucher for a free e-copy.
I hope you are excited about that.
Go ahead, leave a comment.

Oh! Cool! Thanks for the plug! :o) yeah, go ahead, use my name, well a made up name: Er ... you can use my middle name 'Carmen', as the first, and as the surname ... hmm ... let's see. How does 'Black', sound? :o)
Most excellent Jessica. Carmen Black...pianist extraordinaire.

I announced the Fantastic Fridays Writers today - five fantasy-science fiction authors who post on related topics every other Friday.
A whole latte good things going on over here. The Blog Jog sounds interesting, I'm off to check it out. Happy Friday to you :)
I'll check out some of the links. Names..you can use mine "JD (Jules) Southerly." Sorry the last name I made up :D
Jules @ Trying To Get Over The Rainbow
I will stop by and take a peak Alex.
Joanne, the thing I like about the Blog Jog is that it is following on a specific day without the need of posting a specific topic. My Nov. is too busy for that.
I like Jules. No need to use a real name. Now I have two suggestions. Jules Southerly and Carmen Black.
Thank you all for leaving a comment.

What a wonderful idea. I love this! The first name that comes to mind is Shara Hopkins for some odd reason. Don't know why. :)
Have fun with your first contest ever, I think it's great! <3
Why thank you oodles Elizabeth. Adding sweet Shara Hopkins to the list so far.
Carmen Black, Jules Southerly and Shara Hopkins.
Excellent.

Don't have any names for you and I'm sorry about that! :(
Lots of great information here so I will revisit after carpool. es, I know I'm too old for this stuff.
Nancy, you have so many fun things going on and yay for sharing with all of us.
Good luck on finding the perfect name. It will be interesting to find out what you've come up with.
Thanks for the rundown of events!
How about "Megan O'Hagan." Irish exchange student who plays acoustic guitar.
pakazo77@gmail.com
Hey Mary and Patricia, I like to help. It's the alternate lifestyle that I never learned I had as a teacher.
PK, Megan O'Hagan is added to the list. But the character is a pianist since my heroine is a flutist. They share the stage sometimes. But, that part won't be in the book.
So, we now have four names in the running.
Carmen Black, Jules Southerly, Shara Hopkins and Megan O'Hagan.
I sat here looking at the post comment area for a while now hoping a name would come to me. It hasn’t. Who would have thought it would be so hard.
Thanks for that - a bunch of invaluable links.
Sometimes it is very difficult to think of a name. You can always come back and comment later Holly.
You're welcome Simon.
Thank you both for leaving a comment.

Hey Nancy, I just wanted to stop by and check out your blog because you are the first to visit all of ours at Fantastic Friday Writers! Thanks!
You're welcome J.D. it's nice to make new friends.
NR
Well, I am going with the pianist angle and I'll throw in: Ivory Dane.
Patti
What a fun idea!
Sorry posted before I was finished. Hmmm a college student musician...what about Natasha Thomas. Such a fun contest! Hopefully you find the perfect name
This is fun.
How about Layla Nesbitt?
Glad idea for contest, I can't of a new name right now but I actually love the Carmen Black and Layla Nesbitt names already suggested!! ;)
Thanks so much for popping by my blog too. Have a lovely weekend!
Wow, great suggestions all. Thank you Patti, Sondrae and Lydia. The list is getting longer.
So far we have:
Carmen Black, Jules Southerly, Shara Hopkins, Megan O'Hagan, Ivory Dane, Natasha Thomas and Layla Nesbitt.
Thank you everyone.

How about Schmedly Nerdlinger and Rocky McToughnut? You just have to figure out who will be the protagonist and who will be the antagonist.
Feel free to use my name - Erica Lynn. Or my sister's - Stephanie Leigh. Actually, I think I like Steph's better as a fantasy name.
N. R.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and letting me know about your contest! How cool of you. This is so unique and fun. I would love to enter. My character is exotic from the West Indies. Her name. Ebony Baldwyn. Thanks for the info on the other contests.

Talei, thanks for dropping by and adding your two cents for Carmen Black and Layla Nesbitt. They are both great names.
Stephen, I have to confess that I'm not sure about these two names. Schmedly Nerdlinger and Rocky McToughnut. Neither seems the type to be in college as a music major. But, in the spirit of the contest I will be open.
Erica, I like your name and your sisters, thank you for suggesting them. Erica Lynn. Or my sister's - Stephanie Leigh.
Gideon, I'm glad you like my contest. Wet Indies huh...interesting idea. Ebony Baldwyn is on the list.
Here's the list so far:
Carmen Black, Jules Southerly, Shara Hopkins, Megan O'Hagan, Ivory Dane, Natasha Thomas, Layla Nesbitt, Schmedly Nerdlinger, Rocky McToughnut, Erica Lynn, Stephanie Leigh, and Ebony Baldwyn.
Thank you everyone.

I really want to shout "use my name!" but people have pronunciation problems with Rei (and I'm not so sure I want to be killed off in the first chapter!). Alas, I see that Ebony and Ivory are both already taken.
Hmm... nerdy piano player college student... okay, my entry is Lin Xiao (which I admit is the inverse of the translation of my family name to Mandarin).
Very nice Kobico. I like it. Lin Xiao.
This brings us to the following list. (Remember, if I think it is silly, and even I've got you listed in the list, I probably won't put the name in the drawing.) And I am not talking about Kobico's nomination. I like this.
Carmen Black, Jules Southerly, Shara Hopkins, Megan O'Hagan, Ivory Dane, Natasha Thomas, Layla Nesbitt, Schmedly Nerdlinger, Rocky McToughnut, Erica Lynn, Stephanie Leigh, Ebony Baldwyn and Lin Xiao.

Hi ... what fun, and thanks for all the links.
Nearly all the names are female! (with the sole exceptions of Messrs Nerdlinger and McToughnut, who appear to have tongues firmly pressed to cheeks). So, I'd better stick up for the artistic souls that bear my gender, wherever they are! How about Benjamin de Fourre? (with acute accent on the last e maybe?) We would have called our son Benjamin if we hadn't had two daughters instead (!) and I translated my surname from its portuguese origins into French, via English of course. Not that I'm narcissistic or anything.
:D om
Welcome to my blog Dominic. A mighty fine name is that. So funny in a way, since all the characters in the alternate world speak French. Of course, it it written in English. I will add your fabulous name to the list. Thank you for coming by and contributing.
List so far:
Carmen Black, Jules Southerly, Shara Hopkins, Megan O'Hagan, Ivory Dane, Natasha Thomas, Layla Nesbitt, Schmedly Nerdlinger, Rocky McToughnut, Erica Lynn, Stephanie Leigh, Ebony Baldwyn, Lin Xiao and Benjamin de Fourre.

Great links!
Hmmm . . . the name I use (TGE) wouldn't work so well for a character, obviously, so I'll enter the name Hester Jackson. Nationality: Mexican.
My email: eaglesblogspotmail@gmail.com
Hi Nancy, thanks for dropping by and adding my suggestion to your list :D
I wanted to say that Tolkein is an absolute inspiration. I have read LotR at least 8 times and despite (because?) his story telling breaking all the 'rules', I believe he is unparallelled.
Great suggestion Golden. I will add Hector to my list.
You are absolutely right Dominic. Love Tolkien and I have to say the I also love all the Narnia books by C. S. Lewis too. They knew each other and were friends.
List so far:
Carmen Black, Jules Southerly, Shara Hopkins, Megan O'Hagan, Ivory Dane, Natasha Thomas, Layla Nesbitt, Schmedly Nerdlinger, Rocky McToughnut, Erica Lynn, Stephanie Leigh, Ebony Baldwyn, Lin Xiao, Benjamin de Fourre and Hester Jackson.
Thanks to everyone.
