Yesterday L’Aussie asked me about e-publishing and if I had any post. The answer is yes I do. So here are the links.
I have 3 previous post on publishing with some great links. Especially in the Oct. 3, 2010 post. Go read Randy Ingermanson’s post and then come back and click the link on Joe Konrath’s post. This will blow you away.
The August 16, 2010 post is about e-publishing with information on Essential 10 publishers. There is a link. Essential 10 is a Colorado, U.S.A. based company that will take your word document and format it for kindle. I am going to use Essential 10 when I have the manuscript ready.
There are additional e-publishers available for you to browse on my side bar e-publisher blog roll. However, Essential 10 is for self publishing.
Finally, The Blood Red Pencil blog is having post all week about e-publishing. Head over there to read their post.
A final thought. The New York Times recently announced that they would list Amazon’s Kindle’s best seller list.

I just recently got a Kindle, myself...I love books, but I'm pretty sure that publishing is moving in the direction of eBooks.

I'm really excited about the potential for ebooks, especially for smaller publishers who face distribution issues with hard copies.
Authors often blog about their journey to publication, but I haven't read posts about the journey to e-pubbing. So I'm enjoying your posts about the process.
I want a kindle or an iPad, not sure which I'd prefer Elizabeth. But I just got a DroidX, which means that I will be able to buy e-books. So cool. Can't wait for payday.

Joanne, I'm glad that you're finding these post helpful. I've read many articles about the decline of publishing and felt that it was my only option based on experience and what I read.

E-publishing, I think is a great marketable way to get short stories out there. I also think kindles have a wide range of use due to how much one can store on them. kindle is on my wish list. lol
Good thoughts Summer. I've heard that you can save your spot on kindle and also other e-readers and you can highlight. I do a lot of highlighting when I'm studying a book on writing.

Hi,
While many authors can and do use others to format their books for Kindle/Nook/etc, you don't have to. It is fairly easy to do yourself. Just Google formatting word for epub and you'll find many guides on how to do it. Basically, you clear all formatting, then set your paragraphs to hang the first line, and then you use the Heading format to break your chapters. That doesn't sound that hard, right?

Thanks for adding this information J. A. Kazimer. I just want to get to work on more writing ideas and essential 10 will keep on top of the books and update for free. I guess formatting is scary for me, but it is also time consuming. I don't mind sharing 10% of 70% with essential 10.

great links. Joe's number's do look amazing. As time goes by self publishing is becoming more and more accepted.
It's an interesting phenomenon. But there have been others who self published because they were tired of rejection. L. Frank Baum for one. The Wizard of Oz. Thanks for leaving a comment Lynda.

BRW, latest figures from Amazon show that they are selling more e-books than paper. I still buy paper but I guess I'll give in to the inevitable but up til now I didn't know what to buy - Kindle, Nook, I've heard they're both great. Maybe an i-pad is all you need???

Hey L'Aussie...the choices for e-readers just keeps growing. I think whatever you choose will rock, but I would definately go with either the Kindle or the iPad, but that's just me. I'm glad you found the information useful.

As far as being useful, well, I think I have the instincts of a teacher. It gives me a lot of pleasure to help people. And, unlike some people who have this talent, I do know how to say 'no.' LOL

I got a Nook a number of months ago, and read several novels on it. I like it, though I think I'll always prefer the print book. But we have to go with the times, and the economy. I can buy more books and read more with Nook than I can afford to buy print ones. I'm looking forward to reading yours, it looks like maybe soon? Looks like you're making great progress!! Congrats!
I'm re-following. Blogger messed me up. Had to start a new blog, almost same title; imported the old blog but you lose your followers. There are some I don't want to lose!! I self publish. I've learned my lesson, why pay someone like iUniverse $$$ when I can do the same thing myself for free through CreateSpace. Either way I have to do my own marketing and promoting.
