The verse "He came ... that all might believe through him" is worth a closer look.
It could mean "he came ... that all might believe (in Jesus) through him (John)" and it may be that this is how many read it. However we cannot really believe that people only believed in Jesus because of John's preaching and baptism in the Jordan.
An alternative reading is "He came ... that all might believe (in something) through him (Jesus)." This is much more in keeping with the idea of John preparing the way, as a tiller prepares the ground for the sower to sow the seed.
This introduces, or reinforces if you like, the understanding that Jesus did not come just so that all might believe in him. Simple belief in Jesus is not an end in itself. Jesus came that all might believe in His Father's redemption, in His Father's love, in His Father's Kingdom.
"I have come that you might have life," Jesus said, and that life, within the love of God, starts right now. All we have to do is say "Yes" to Jesus.

Blessings to you.
