Stop the Bullying!

Today I'd like to pass along some recent finds to support, stop the bullying, and hopefully give  you all some references. I was bullied, my children were bullied, but now with all the social media it has become an even more serious and dangerous practice.

9news here in Colorado, featured a teenager who used to bully but now is involved in a program to stop bullying. This is worth your time, especially if you are looking for ways to educate young people or help a young person overcome bullying.

Kristin at Razzy Corner has featured an excellent 5 part series on bullying.

Stephen Tremp at Breakthrough blogs posted this touching clip that he found on Facebook:

The One you just called fat? She has been starving herself and has lost over 30lbs. The One you just called stupid? She has a learning disability & studies over 4hrs a night. The One you just called ugly? She spends hours putting makeup on hoping people will like her. The One you just tripped? She is abused enough at home. Theirs a lot more to people than you think. Put this as your status if you're against bullying!

The Write Hope auction to benefit Japan is still going on. Each item is given 4 days for bids and new items are  up everyday. Click the Write Hope badge at the top right hand corner if  you're interested.

Hump Day Improvisation will continue but may not be weekly as other things come up that I feel are important.

Thanks for stopping by.

Thanx for making us stop and face the issues that are really important.

Your words bring a new image to the bullying story, that of the personal lives of the victims. I think that's a great help to do.

I agree Joanna.

Not my words, Joanne, I wish they were.

Thank you both for stopping by and leaving a comment.

Hi Nancy .. thanks for highlighting bullying aspects .. they do seem to be worse now-a-days with all the extra techie links ..

I just hope we can ensure our children know about and how we can help them and others through ..

Thanks for the links .. Hilary

Thanks for the links- My kids are going through a bully program at school. As much as people try to help them, sometimes it would work better if the playground teachers actually paid attention.
One boy actually had my daughter pinned against a wall with his hands around her throat and they didn't even bother with it.

My nephew goes to a different school and he has some ADD problems, so a kid hits him, my nephew hits him back, the kid who hit him wasn't even talked to while my nephew was sent to the principle because they "didn't see it"

Online bullying is a real problem now.

You're welcome, Hilary.

That's terrible, Summer. I learned with my youngest that the schools preferred to look the other way. Hopefully that will change soon.

Yes it is, Alex.

Thanks everyone for dropping by.

Thanks for posting the link to my series on bullying. It is a topic that is extremely important and still doesn't get enough attention or more importantly enough action.

P.S. I haven't forgotten about those books titles. Work has just been crazy and I haven't had time to dig them up

Beautiful post, Nancy and so true. Bullying is a horrible truth that people need to wake up to. And more parents need to stand up to bullying and talk to their kids about it. It's damaging.

Thanks for passing this along!

You're welcome Kristin. You provided an important series that I wanted to share.

Why, thank you Jules. If I win the first thing will be disbelief and the second, sharing. I'll let you know.

Hello Jen, it is a terrible problem. The old rhyme, sticks and stone may break my bones but words can never hurt me, is false. Words often do the most damage.

This is critical information and I applaud you for getting the word out. I also feel like bullying is escalating. I recently had the opportunity to look at surveys of 12 year olds in our city and it was amazing how many of them were victims of bullying or were bullying others.

Thanks for this great post and the links. My teenage daughter is in school and I face this issue all the time.

BTW, I'm hosting Roland D Yeomans today, who self-published his book THE BEAR WITH TWO SHADOWS and is sharing his journey with us as well as a four book giveaway!

thanks for posting these links.Bullies are detestable, but they all have stories behind their behavior. Maybe once we know those stories, it'll be easier to get through to them.

Thank you, Debbie, Nas and Nut for dropping by and leaving a meaningful comment. I appreciate it.

You are so wise, Nancy.... This is an issue that is beyond out of control.

I live in Chicago and there isn't one night on the news that they feature bullying and gun violence in schools.

It's a TRAGIC epidemic!

IT needs to be addressed and resolved.

I don't think it will ever really go away. But we can become stronger by sticking together... which is what the FLOAT mission is all about.

If this can even save one child's life, it's totally worth it.

N. R. Williams said...

I agree PK. Many voice raised together is better than one person head butting the school system for help.

Yes, that is true Jeffrey. We should strive to save the children.

Thank you both for sharing.
