To weight or not

Post Date: 7/20/10

To weight or not…no Shakespeare didn’t ask that question. Who knows what they called the heavy set in those days. That has little interest for me now. What I care about is my own weight. At this writing I have spent years of wishing and striving for a smaller waist, face, arm and butt…you know, behind. I have longed to look gorgeous but the mirror claimed otherwise, if not verbally than imagery. Is that a word?

When I considered adding various topics to my blog post I thought, what interest me besides inventing magical realms and monsters galore? My interest varies, but my weight seems constant. On my page you will read that I tried several diet options. Now, in 2010, we are learning that diets don’t work. I’ve known that for awhile. It seemed to me that the air I breathed had calories hanging in dense, unseen bubbles that I couldn’t avoid. I don’t eat much and I never have. So it isn’t volume, but what I eat.

Money plays a role in the American diet. Those who are wealthy, even the upper middle class, have access to a healthier diet by virtue of their revenue. Those who are poor or in the middle class find their money tied up in bills, bills and more bills with little left over for the grocery store. In recent years, there has been more information available via the net, just like this blog is available. We’ve learned how to save, spend and shop. We are on the cusps of change, both in lifestyle and opinion. Now if Hollywood would just profile the truth about the average American weight problem, we might just see some change in the tall, handsome, blond guy, (insert whatever hair color you like here,) turning up his nose at the short, obese, young woman who is munching on celery sticks and robbing herself of sustainable food in order to attract, said handsome guy. What a sentence. I can see my critique group now coming after me with a pair of scissors. I only leave it to draw out a laugh from you.

Back to the subject; my weight. To my delight, I have discovered that weight watchers works for me. I am now down 35 pounds. Unlike a certain T.V. show that wants you to drop quickly, my doctor says no more than 2 pounds a week. I average about one pound. This is sustainable and I can follow it without using up any brain cells. If you’re inspired to join me please do, we’ll drop together.

Cheers: Pass the sugar free iced tea.

If you really want to go off on a tangent about the American diet, watch "Food Inc." (I reviewed it earlier this year.) It will blow your mind.
