Fried Brains

Everyone has experienced those days, which may stretch into weeks, and sometimes last for months, when you simply have so much to do and there aren’t enough hours in the day. I am currently in one of those cycles. I am finishing final edits on my epic fantasy to publish it and waiting for some feed back from an editor. I am creating a new character and writing a short fantasy that will be a series. (The epic is a series too, but that’s another post). I am thinking about resurrecting a few super short stories to submit to an online fantasy magazines and in addition to all that, I am squeezing in time for my art.

Of course, none of this changes the fact that I am an unpaid taxi driver for my two grown children who don’t have cars of their own. I’m also the emergency babysitter and the ear in which all manner of troubles are divulged. And the wife who is on call to answer troubling questions like, “how much is on my credit card, honey?” (He doesn’t say honey but I can’t repeat what he does say; this isn’t an x rated blog). (The husbands a trucker and when he runs out of cash he uses his card).

Considering my life there are times when I just feel like I can’t handle another thing. When I feel that way I often say, “My brain is fried.” So, I thought I’d turn it into a post.

My brain is fried when: you can’t remember which child you just talked to.

My brain is fried when: you forgot which character is talking and which one is pouting.

My brain is fried when: you thought it was Saturday all day and really it’s Wednesday.

My brain is fried when: you can’t spell your own name.

My brain is fried when: you intended to make hamburger for dinner but you defrosted a whole turkey instead.

Do you have fried brains? What does that smell like?

I have fried brains too, they smell like Cheetos or maybe that was my nutritious lunch.

The turkey grew feathers and ran away. Hey, I'm a fantasy writer.

Cheetos are yummy but then my fingers are orange and the key board is sticking.

Thanks for your comments.

It smells like coffee; that's why you don't notice it until it's too late.

LOL Helen.

Sometimes I refer to my kids as daughter number 1, daughter number 2 .... I forget their names when my brain is fried.

I love your blog and this post was disturbing, yet fabulous! I'm an absolute fan, and seeing that we have so many blog buddies in common it's hard not to like you!!

My brain is fried, this was the perfect piece since it seems that that I've been on overload for awhile now. As far as what it smells like I'm going with twizzlers... then again that could be what I devoured for lunch today. I suppose I'll keep you guessing ;)

Looking forward to following you!
